Toe fusion SUCCESS!

I went to the hospital today for my 6 week x-ray on my foot. As you probably know I had my big toe fused about 6 weeks ago and this was the appointment to see if it had worked. I have been walking around in my special shoe for a while now, and still couldn't put any weight onto the front of my foot (well I could but I wasn't allowed too) I had my x-ray taken and then saw the doctor, he told me I could now walk for short periods of time without the shoe on! I am so happy about this :D As I cannot explain how tricky it is getting in and out of the bath on one foot! The first thing I did when I got home is take my shoe off and go on a walk around my bedroom haha. It still feels very strange to walk on it, and I can't help but walk on the outside edge of my foot,  a habit I need to now break. I will still have to wear the shoe when walking around outside and walking long distances, but I am still so happy for my foot to touch the grand after 6 weeks!

I also get my GCSE results tomorrow, so fingers crossed I have done ok and not failed maths hehe!

The stitches are out Wahheeyy!

I usually put the writing at the bottom of my photos, but I thought I would pre-warn you all, if you don't like blood (only small amounts) or stitches or anything hospital related really) then don't read on, it's not pretty! Ok with that out of the way, on too my foot. I had my stitches taken out today, FINALLY! It has felt like forever in the bandage, I cannot tell you how sweaty my foot felt (gross but true) So here is the little story of photos of my trip to hospital at 9.00 this morning. The first one is just me being daft haha.
In the car a few days ago (just thought I would include one of the many embarrassing photos I take of myself on a daily basis)
Waiting in the... you guessed it, waiting room :) I was a bit nervous, but sort of nervously excited.
Behold, yet another embarrassing photo of me!  I like to mess around and pull some extremely unattractive faces as soon as the camera come out.
WARNING - VILE PHOTO!!! This was just after they had taken the bandage and gauze off. Fresh air to my foot at long last. But it's not a pretty sight, lets be honest. My foot is a bit swollen, and well you can see for yourself that I have a big line of stitches down my toe.
They also made a small incision on the top of my toe to put the pins and screw or whatever htey use in, I didn't even know they had this!
This is just after having the stitches taken out, I'm not going to lie I shouldn't have looked as I din't like blood or anything like this at all, but curiosity got the better of me. This resulted in me having to lie down as I admitted to the nurse I was feeling so good and thought I was going to faint (it has happened before) Getting the stitches out wasn't too painful other than a few bits where they were stuck in scabs over the wound YUCKK! But with a bit of tugging they were out yayy!
As you can see my toe is now significantly shorter than it was, and compared ot my left toe too! I thought that they just cut through the bone, but no... they took the whole joint out, which is why it is quite a lot shorter. It isn't as much shorter than the other foot as it looks in the picture, I think I had my foot at a funny angle as I still can't straiten it properly due to 2 weeks of not using it. I am bit sad because I found out that I still have to wear the special shoe for 4 weeks longer which means I can't go in the sea on holiday :( That is my favourite bit! But nevermind, it could be a lot worse, I could have had my toe removed or not even have a foot... so I am thankfull really :)
It is my birthday tomorrow so I am going out for breakfast with my Mum, then having a tea party with my friend Lily (Alice in Wonderland themed) So I am really looking forward to that. In case anyone was wondering why I haven't done a post about my hair yet, well that's because I still haven't dyed it yet. The hair dye is out of stock online and they only sell it in the big boots and superdrugs. But I'm not up to walking around a lot so I can't get it yet, but don't worry I will do it.

A little Update on me, myself and I

So sorry I haven't blogged much recently, but due to my foot operation I can't walk for 2 weeks so I am stuck in the house! Which basically means I haven't done anything worth blogging about (unless you want a blog post about the many films I have watched and how much I have slept ;) )
In the photo you can see my snazzy shoe (you know you want one), it stops me from putting any weight onto the front of my foot because if I did then the screw and bones would be dislodged and I would have to  have the operation again. It says on the leaflet that I can walk on it now, but it's best if you don't and so you should only walk on it if you really have to. But seeing as the surgery is usually used for bunions, which I don't have,  it is normally done on older people who would find it hard to hop around on crutches. But I can do this, so I just do that instead. Which also means it should hopefully fuse quicker and cause less swelling :)

Now onto the cheerier stuff, I am hoping to dye my hair blonde in a few days, my lovely friend is picking up some hair dye and a pre-lightener for me. I am a bit nervous in case it turns to orange, but I do have a bit of a john Frieda shampoo left that gets rid of brassiness. So if all goes well and I come out blonde, then let me know if you would like a blog post on how I did it. Just for the record, I have had my hair every colour under the sun, and blonde is one of them. But unfortunately I can't remember how on earth I got it blonde, other than the fact that I once used sun-in (big mistake) which did make it a gorgeous shade, but also fried it like there no tomorrow! Thankfully my hair has recovered now and I rarely use heat on it anymore so it's condition is much better. So I will leave you with some photos of my many shades of blonde, sorry for the bad quality but they were taken on my webcam.

Poorly Becky :(

(me lay in bed feeling sorry for myself whilst typing this posts ahaha, the marks on me are from the heart monitors, despite looking like bite marks)
Hi everyone, I hope you are all feeling better than I am (sniffle)! If you read my previous blog post then you will know that I had a foot operation on Monday,  I had my big toe fused. (if you are squeamish I would stop reading here) Basically, what they did is they cut through the bone in my big toe, then they cleaned up around my joint because I had slight arthritis in it, and then they place either 1 or 2 screws lengthways through the toe with wire to hold it in place and then stitch your toe back up! It sounds gross I know, and I stupidly googled it before having the operation and made myself feel quite sick from the pictures, I don't recommend that any of you search google images for 'big toe fusion', take my advice I am saving you from your own curiosity!
I went into hospital at 7.00 on Monday morning, so this resulted in a very sleepy me after having little sleep and getting up at 6.00, and I was also very hungry and thirsty as you cant eat or drink before an operation. When I got there I was shown to a ward, which I had to myself for most of the time as it was an overspill ward because it was busy. I was given a hospital gown to change into (which the nurse told me was straight from the cat walks of Milan ;) ) and then I had numbing cream placed on the backs of my hands, which looked like mayonnaise or a giant pussy spot, and clear plasters were put over the top to stop it from going everywhere! You are only supposed to have it put on one hand but the nurse said I have very tricky veins (the numbing cream is for where thy put the cannula needle in)  but they couldn't find my veins so she took a lucky guess haha! I then basically waited fo a few hours and saw a lot of nurses who asked lots of questions, I also saw the surgeon and the anesthetist who explained what would happen.
The time eventually came for my operation and I was asked to walk down to an area where you lie on a bed and then get wheeled into the anesthetist's room.  My Mum was allowed to stay with me the whole time because I am still classed as a child (under 16) so was in the childrens area of the hospital. I had been so brave up to now (well I though I had anyway) and I had been worrying for weeks about having the cannula needle put in my hand. So when we got to the place where I had to wait on the trolley, I was doing so well, but then my Mum asked me if I was ok and the nerves got the better of me and I burst into tears :( The lay who was also taking care of me was very nice and let me play on a teddy bear game on her phone whilst we waited. I then got taken into the anethetists room to have my cannula and anesthetic put in (the bit that makes you sleep through the operation). I hate needles and this was awful! She tried to get the needle into the back of my left hand first, but after a poke around she couldn't find the vein, so she then tried the right hand but to no success either. By this point It hurt so much and I was so nervous I was just crying to my Mum and holding her hands. So the anesthetist decided to use the gas instead as she couldn't find my veins without it being to painful, I put the mask on and was asked to breathe normally and this was the last thing I new about it before waking up in the recovery ward!
Unfortunatley the anesthetic made me ill and I had to stay in hospital overnight, I was sick and felt faint every time I stood up. But the next morning I was allowed to go home :) I have a big bandage around my foot so I can't move any of my toes, and a special shoe that stops me from putting any weight onto the front of my foot. I also have crutches WOOHOO (I have always wanted crutches) and I have to stay in bed with my foot elevated for  weeks :( I am already bored, so I can't see myself doing that. It is very painful but I have been given prescription pain killers to reduce the pain. I am sorry for such a boring, rambly and miserable post, but I feel pretty poopy to be honest! I hope you are all well and enjoying the summer holidays :) x
